The building itself, originally designed as a residence for the Christian Brothers in 1862 is a listed building whose architects; George Ashlin and Edward W. Pugin (son of Augustus W.N. Pugin, who designed the houses of Parliament in England) are noted for designing many of Ireland's Roman Catholic Churches and Cathedrals
