John Philip Holland, born in County Clare in 1841, the son of a lighthouse keeper he attended the Christian Brothers School in Co. Cork and later joined the Brothers in Cork and Drogheda. In 1865 he arrived in Drogheda and resided in the Drogheda Convent that stands today as Scholars Townhouse Hotel.
Scholars Townhouse comprises of 16 luxurious and comfortable bedrooms all furnished to the standards of a modern hotel room. Built in 1867 the building is a protected structure and you have to admire the old world charm that the rooms have kept through their renovation
